Ukraine

Many Ukrainians are now returning home after studying, working, living abroad for a long time, or running a business in another country. And almost every time, one practical question comes up: what should be done with foreign documents so they can be officially used in Ukraine?

These may include diplomas, school certificates, birth or marriage certificates, police clearance certificates, medical records, court decisions, inheritance documents, business papers, employment documents, and many other official papers. For Ukrainian institutions, simply presenting a document in a foreign language is often not enough. In many cases, the document must be translated into Ukrainian, the translation may need to be notarized, and the original document may require an apostille or consular legalization. The exact requirements depend on the country where the document was issued and the procedure for which it will be used.

This page brings together useful information on how to prepare foreign documents for official use in Ukraine. It may be helpful for Ukrainians returning home, people applying to Ukrainian educational institutions, those looking for employment, confirming their education or professional qualifications, registering family status, dealing with inheritance matters, banks, notaries, government authorities, or other Ukrainian institutions.

The purpose of this page is to help you understand what may be required for translation, apostille, legalization, and notarization of documents in Ukraine — so you can avoid unnecessary mistakes, repeated visits, and wasted time.
