The Hague

📍 Netherlands · 0 directory entries
The Hague is a city of the North Sea, broad boulevards, and understated European elegance. Historic palaces stand alongside the modern offices of international organisations, while the dunes and beaches of Scheveningen begin just a few tram stops from the government quarter. The Hague does not have Amsterdam’s restless pace, but its calmer atmosphere gives the city a distinctive sense of confidence—a place where important decisions are made.

For many Ukrainians, The Hague becomes a place to work, study, reunite with family, or begin a new chapter. The city is home to international institutions, diplomatic missions, universities, and companies, attracting professionals from around the world. At the same time, everyday life remains pleasantly comfortable: cycle routes, green neighbourhoods, proximity to the sea, and well-organised public transport make it easier to settle in.

Moving to the Netherlands often involves translating civil status certificates, diplomas, police clearance certificates, and documents relating to marriage, birth, education, or employment history. For work, study, or family matters, translations into Dutch or English may be required, while certain documents may also need an apostille or another form of authentication. Requirements vary by institution, so it is best to confirm in advance which format will be accepted.

Particular attention should be paid to the spelling of names, surnames, and institutional titles. Consistency is important in Dutch documentation: the same person should not appear under different transliterations in a passport, translations, and application forms. What may seem like a minor detail can significantly affect how quickly a case is processed.

The Hague reveals itself gradually—through walks near the Binnenhof, the wind from the sea, morning cyclists, and the international sound of its streets. Once the main formalities are behind you, the city begins to feel like more than an administrative centre: it becomes a comfortable place for work, family, and everyday life.
